> | From hopepublishing.com/86 past editor with Hope Publishing Company, retiring in January of 2009. His association with Hope began in 1978. A 1964 graduate of Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, where he majored in Voice and Organ, he also received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Nebraska (1966). Further studies in theology culminated in Jack's ordination by the Evangelical Free Church of America (1975). Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he now resides in Florida with his wife, Karen. They have three children, Beth, Jonathan and Joel, and many grandchildren. |
> | In 1971, when I was 10 years old, my family started attending Wheaton Evangelical Free Church in Wheaton, IL. Jack Schrader was the minister of music there at that time. He and his family continued to attend there after he left that job to work with Hope Publishing. My parents were good friends with Jack and Karen thru the years. My dad died in 2001, and my mom continued there until around 2021 when it became more difficult to get down there. Around that same time Jack and Karen moved to Florida. |
![]() | On 1974(05/12), when I was 13 years old, I completed Pastor's Instruction Class and received this bible signed by Jack and the other pastors at the church(click picture to enlarge). |
> | Probably around 1974, I played an oboe solo at the church that Jack accompanied. It was part of Free Church Great Lakes District Youth Contest. Kids competed in a lot of categories music, arts, quizzing etc. I played a song that I had done in a simular solo&ensemble contest in Public Junior High. The song was Polovtsian Dances but known as Stranger in Paradise. I did ok at the performance at school but not as well at church but Jack was very supportive. > | I remember Jack singing an emotional version of Ten Thousand Angels by Ray Overholt |
> | Around 1977-1978, the church went thru a 3 way split. Jack was the one pastor who stayed with the church and based on that played a role much larger than just a Minister of Music. More on that at townoak.com/us/churches/efca. |

My mom said that would be good in part because I liked Keith Green. So Jack sang that at the funeral.
